About Rewind Town

Rewind Town helps children and families explore the history of the place they live: a timeline, games and the women of their town's past. It supports the local history study in England's National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2. This is an early test version, and we'd love your feedback.

Three ways to explore

Choose who's exploring and the whole town changes to suit them. 🌳 Age 12 and up gets the full story, including the original records behind each event. 🌿 Age 7–11 gets real dates and quizzes. 🌱 Age 5–7 gets one big picture for each period, with no dates. You can change it any time in Settings.

Where our facts come from

Every fact comes from a sentence on Wikipedia that has its own source, such as a history book, an archive or a news report. Tap “Source” on anything to see the original source, the exact sentence and version of the Wikipedia page we used, and how we used it. Information about people also comes from Wikidata.
For full towns, we rewrite each fact for children and check it against its source. Previews show Wikipedia's own words and haven't been checked yet. If something looks wrong, tap “Source”, then “Report a mistake”.

Privacy

• We never ask for a child's name or anything about them.
• We count visits without cookies, so we can see which towns and games people use.
• To suggest a nearby town we use your rough location from your internet connection. We don't save it.
• If you type a postcode, only the first half (like TW18) is used, to find the nearest town.
• Feedback is anonymous unless you choose to add your email, which we only use to reply to you.
• Your “Who’s exploring?” and light/dark choices are saved on this device only.
